A wonderful way to start the day in Africa

When Heleen and Karel bought their farm this was the favourite artists’ ruin to capture on canvas, and locals were quite concerned that it would be modernised and lose its personality, so H&K had many compliments on the sensitive way they restored it. When you sit on the stoep in the early morning dunking your rusks in coffee, you look out at the newly planted olive grove (70 trees) , the almond trees and the lavender bushes.

Oh and by the way, at 5.00am Dave called me to the bedroom window to look out. He motioned that I should be very quiet – and there were two kudu grazing. What a wonderful way to start the day in Africa.
